FOSS4G 2022 in an exclusive area in one of the most beautiful and visited art cities in the world
The venue is located at the heart of Firenze, the cradle of Renaissance, just a few steps away from the main railway station of Santa Maria Novella, ten minutes on foot from the Cathedral of S. Maria del Fiore and from the main shopping streets, and only 5 km away from the Firenze International Airport “Amerigo Vespucci”.

As a first-time participant in FOSS4G, I was impressed by the innovative and collaborative energy and spirit throughout the multinational group of FOSS4G'ers. Nowhere else have I experienced this from such a large group representing dozens of countries from a variety of unique and diverse backgrounds, all working on uniquely important geospatial challenges and problems. As GeoSolutions is based in Viareggio (near Florence) with a substantial representation of FOSS4G developers from Italy, we were in a way "de-facto hosts" conducting around 12 presentations and workshops throughout the week. I personally was impressed by the number of people from countries around the world who approached the GeoSolutions booth with questions, feedback, compliments, or just to chat and hang out with the team.
From day 1 of the conference the networking was fantastic, with food, music, and libations unmatched by most GIS conferences. The closing social dinner and band climatically capped a great week of making new friends and experiencing the open-source FOSS4G momentum - a momentum which I hope we can capture and continue in North America as we continue building the FOSS4G community locally, driving innovation and new solutions based on interoperability and open standards.
