Un «english tea» a Firenze per la festa della Regina

I l «British Institute»  ha voluto coinvolgere i cittadini del mondo residenti o di passaggio a Firenze nella celebrazioni dei 60 anni di regno della regina Elisabetta II aprendo le porte di una delle più belle biblioteche al mondo,  the Harold Acton Library, dove all’ entrata da  Lungarno Guicciardini al piano terra sono stati predisposti  diversi giochi inglesi e laboratori per realizzare e decorare corone; al primo piano,  tra gli scaffali pieni di libri, è stato servito tea e dolci inglesi e nella sala, intitolata a Fiamma Ferragamo, seduti  intorno a  tavolini, si poteva degustare tea mentre sullo schermo in diretta veniva trasmessa la spettacolare parata  che si stava svolgendo a Londra.
La Console Sara Milne  ha dichiarato: «Sono fiera di essere britannica e di aver potuto ospitare così tante persone». Una folla di persone  ordinatamente in fila sul Lungarno   ha infatti atteso, anche più di un’ora, prima di poter entrare nella biblioteca.  Vanda Ferragamo ha detto: «La folla presente al British e la folla a Londra testimonia i grandi valori della regina, una persona davvero speciale» e ha aggiunto di commuoversi ogni volta che entra in questa sala dedicata a sua figlia Fiamma.

We are from Cortona, but are English, living in Italy. We are visiting Firenze today, sunday 3rd June, to do a bit of shopping and then to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee at the British Institute. We will be watching this great event on a large screen in the beautiful library. The flotilla today is one of the largest ever seen on the River Thames, and it is the first time that one of this size has sailed for over 350 years.  It starts at Putney Bridge and proceeds down the river to Tower Bridge, where the Queen, after leading the flotilla, will disembark beside Tower Bridge and then take The Salute from all the boats that sail past her.  All the boats taking part are significant historically, having a special relationship with the Queen through her many charities.

We are proud to be British. God Bless the Queen
